SETÚBAL - On September 30, 2013, it will be 1 year since MTV Brasil stopped being broadcast in free-to-air, to make way for the programming of Ideal TV, a channel belonging to Grupo Abril of Ideal TV was a channel that had already been shut down in 2009 but returned to the air on October 1, 2013 at midnight, showing reruns of its content. In pay TV, Viacom recently relaunched the new Brazilian MTV on October 1, 2013, which currently broadcasts on a closed channel.
Despite being reruns of programs aired between 2007 and 2009, there was a reasonable percentage of people who enjoyed the station's programming, which consisted of programs on career management, business management and well-being.
In December of the previous year, Grupo Abril, which at the time owned Ideal TV, received several offers, including one for R$500 million from Missionary RRS, but refused because it did not want to negotiate with churches, until December 2013, it accepted Grupo Spring de Comunicação offer for R$200 million to sell the channel's concession.
Of course, things didn't happen overnight. The Cade authorized the sale in January 2014, but in March of this year the station was threatened with sale because the Spring Comunicação failed to pay the down payment for the purchase of the broadcasting operation where the music channel had previously operated. The installment, of around R$100 million, should have been paid by January 2014.
A few months later, on June 13, 2014, some clauses in the contract that had been in place since last December were rewritten and the purchase of the station was confirmed. When this news was announced, I believe many people were expecting the new station to go on the air soon.
Almost a month after this happened, the Grupo Spring de Comunicação reached an agreement with Apostle Valdemiro Santiago, leader of the Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus, to broadcast his church's programming on the channel, taking up the entire programming schedule, which continues to this day. Today there is not much news and there is no forecast for when the new channel will enter the market. I remember that the comedy group Hermes and Renato even made fun of the situation of the then MTV Brasil saying that it would be bought by Apostle Valdemiro. Of course, all this was a joke. Check out the video below.
Today, the programming of the now-defunct MTV Brasil is based practically on the tele-cults held by the Igreja Mundial de Poder de Deus (IMPD), with little diversity, such as the Gerando Salvação program, which is a youth program, containing gospel music and a kind of talent show, in addition to Repórter Mundial, which is a newspaper that only talks about things related to the Igreja Mundial and some general news and electoral propaganda inserts since we are in the election period.
This is the situation after 1 year without MTV Brasil. We are now waiting for the next chapters, because I believe that many people are in this expectation of seeing a new TV station on a national scale. Why is it taking so long for a new station to be born? We can cite as an example that Rede Manchete, which went bankrupt in May 1999, transferred its concession to Rede TV! and in November 1999 the station of Amilcare Dallevo and Marcelo de Carvalho was already on the air. What is happening for Grupo Spring Comunicação to take so long to launch a new program?
