Disney Channel returns to Spain on pay TV

BARREIRO Disney has announced the relaunch of the Disney Channel in Spain on pay TV, following the end of its terrestrial broadcasts on January 7, 2025, according to mundoplus.tv. The company is finalizing a strategy to bring the Disney Channel back to the Spanish market after the brand disappeared from the television landscape.

Disney Channel Spain stopped broadcasting on January 7, 2025, closing after 27 years continuously in Spanish homes. Its closure marked the end of an era for a channel that was the leading children's channel for 8-16 year olds since its launch in 1998 and which, for many more years, was also part of the Spanish digital terrestrial television offering.

After 1 year and 2 months since the channel's closure, Disney is preparing for its return through a rebranding that will replace Disney Jr. Spain on pay-TV operators. The children's channel, currently aimed at children aged 3 to 7, will be transformed into the new Disney Channel Spain through a rebranding process, thus recovering one of the company's most recognized brands on television.

The change will not affect the disappearance of the children's television channel. The newly relaunched Disney Channel Spain will maintain a dedicated daily time slot within the Disney Jr. programming block, featuring series and programs aimed at young children aged 3 to 7, while the rest of the programming will be geared towards teenagers and pre-teens, following the channel's classic model.

This change will allow Disney to reorganize its presence on Spanish television and reposition the Disney Channel Spain brand in linear programming, at a time when children's audiences continue to innovate on traditional television and streaming services. The channel will be available on TV operators, including Movistar Plus+, Vodafone, Orange TV, R, and more where Disney Jr. Spain is currently broadcast.

The televised announcement of the Spanish television channel's return will be in the same month that the company reveals more details about the new phase and programming of the channel. The transformation of the current Disney Jr. Spain into Disney Channel Spain will take effect on April 1, the date scheduled for the channel's relaunch in Spain.
