Telefónica's Movistar Plus+ confirms the departure of MTV 00s and Paramount Network; other operators will bring it
BARREIRO - On January 1 of next year, Telefónica's Movistar Plus+ television service will update its channel lineup, at which point two channels will no longer be available on Spanish pay TV. Other channels leaving MTV 90s, MTV 80s, Club MTV, and MTV Live, which will cease to be part of the offering on January 19 of next year. This change is not limited to a single operator but affects all platforms where these channels were previously broadcast.
The change will be finalized with the definitive departure of Paramount Network Spain and MTV 00s, two channels that are disappearing simultaneously from Spanish pay television and will no longer be available on all platforms where they were distributed.
The way this disappearance will be handled varies depending on the operator. On Orange TV, the Paramount Network Spain signal will be replaced by Paramount Network de Pluto, the ad-supported FAST version of the channel, which can also be watched independently via Pluto TV. This way, the content remains accessible, although outside the traditional pay-TV model.
In Spain, Vodafone has already stopped broadcasting Paramount Network Spain, and the operator has taken advantage of the situation to reorganize its channel lineup. Squirrel has been moved from channel 58 to channel 57, freeing up channel 58, which will be occupied by Squirrel 2. Meanwhile, Bom Cine remains on Vodafone, where it was already available, occupying channel 59, which will now occupy its permanent position in the lineup.
The disappearance of Paramount Network Spain and MTV 00s marks the end of an era for two historic Spanish pay-TV channels, in a scenario where operators are increasingly opting for changes in channel lineups, FAST channels, and selective adjustments to adapt their linear offerings to new consumption habits.
