BARREIRO - Following the recent launch of Teletoon+ in Canada, a multiplatform streaming service for children and young people, the Corus group today announced the rebranding of two of its children's television channels in Canada, which will take place on March 27, and will feature a new schedule of children's series.
The Canadian channel Teletoon will become Cartoon Network Canada, while the latter will be modified to introduce Boomerang Canada, which is debuting in the Canadian market for the first time.
The new Cartoon Network Canada will offer iconic and classic Teletoon shows, along with series produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Corus' own Nelvana studios. The new Boomerang Canada, on the other hand, will air older Cartoon Network and Corus programs along with reruns of more recent Cartoon Network content, such as The Tom and Jerry Show, The Powerpuff Girls, Jellystone!, Total Drama Island, and many more.
The News Europe spoke with the American company Warner Bros. Discovery, which confirmed that Cartoon Network will not be discontinued in Portugal; it will simply continue broadcasting some series from Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery (Teen Titans Go! and Jellystone!). Just a reminder of this news, Boomerang Portugal will be renamed Cartoonito Portugal starting March 23 of this year.
The decision, made on December 15 of last year, saw Canal Panda establish an exclusive channel for Portugal after the closure of the Spanish channel in its second phase, which was replaced by the Enfamilia channel. The legacy of the Teletoon brand is marked by industry-leading animation across the Canada, which has shaped the landscape of children's entertainment for generations, and after more than 25 years on television, the brand will say goodbye as a linear channel after 25 years.
