BARREIRO - Former Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons recently announced, according to the official news from OBR that he will soon be voicing Snagglepuss (which in European Portuguese is the same as the English version of the character in Jellystone!) in a new animated series.
"Snagglepuss was, for me, probably the first gay totem I had without even knowing it—aside from Uncle Arthur in the Bewitched reruns," the actor said. "I remember thinking, 'Well, he seems familiar. Why?' (laughs) Get to add an extra layer to Snagglepuss, if we get that chance? Oh, yeah."
Snagglepuss was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, with the first version of the character appearing in 1959 in Quick Draw McGraw, later becoming a regular segment on The Yogi Bear Show. The character is a light pink, anthropomorphic puma who breaks the fourth wall, wears his collar turned up, his shirt cuffs rolled up, and his bow tie rolled up. He enjoys the finer things in life and displays a particular affinity for theater. Following an appearance in a DC comic, the character is canonically gay.
Furthermore, after The Yogi Bear Show (which ended on January 6, 1962), Snagglepuss appeared in other series such as Yogi's Gang (1973), Yogi's TH (1985) and Yo Yogi (1991). He was also the commentary character, alongside Mildew Wolf, in LAL (1977).
The character can currently appears on Jellystone!, an HBO Max animated series featuring reimagined versions of various Hanna-Barbera characters. Dana Snyder voices him in Jellystone!, where he appears as one of the town's many residents, working in the entertainment industry. In Portugal, the series premiered on Cartoon Network Portugal on January 17 of this year. Manuel Tur currently also provides the voice for the European Portuguese version of Snagglepuss. The character is portrayed as a TV reporter.
At the moment, Warner Bros. Discovery has not officially announced a new animated project featuring Snagglepuss.
