Through a tweet published today, November 1 by the Argentine cable operator TeleRed, it is confirmed that Boomerang Latin America will be called Cartoonito Latin America, starting next December 1. Two other operators also made their respective announcements this Tuesday, November 2: the Argentinian Sensa and the Colombian HV Multiplay.
Cartoonito Latin America is a preschool television channel owned by Turner Broadcasting System Latin America for children aged 2 to 7. It will succeed the Boomerang Latin America channel. In August, Cartoonito became available through the HBO Max service, which launched in Europe in October of this year.
This was followed by a programming block in the mornings on Cartoon Network in the US starting in September, featuring preschool animations owned by Time Warner, such as The Not-Too-Late Show, Thomas & Friends, Daffy Spider, Esme & Roy, Sesame Street, and others.
At the moment, there is no information on what content will be included in the channel's first month, but programs such as Masha and the Bear, Oddbods and Grizzy and the Lemmings are expected, while it is unknown whether any original Cartoon Network programs will be retained.
With this, Boomerang Latin America will cease broadcasting on pay television after more than 20 years, since its launch on July 2, 2001, previously, it was a programming block on Cartoon Network Latin America between 1993 and 2001, notable for having gone through various approaches. Therefore, the channel's classic era ran from July 2, 2001, to April 3, 2006, when Boomerang Latin America relaunched as a channel for preschoolers, adults, and teenagers.
In June 2008, the American company Turner removed classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons from Boomerang Latin America to focus on a teenage audience.null Hanna-Barbera cartoons, which previously aired on the channel, were moved to Tooncast, which launched in early December 2008.
In September 2014, Boomerang Latin America shifted its focus from targeting a youth audience to family-oriented programming, featuring classic and modern cartoons for children. The channel will discontinue its family-oriented branded channel and replace it with a new brand focused preschool.
More details are expected to be revealed throughout November, and television operators will also begin notifying their users.
