Public Prosecutor's Office investigates FC Porto's deal with now-defunct PT Portugal

SETÚBAL - The Portuguese Public Prosecutor's Office (MPP) is investigating a deal made in 2016 between FC Porto and PT Portugal, for the sale of television rights, which included distribution, the Porto Canal. At issue is the payment of a commission of 20 million euros to the company that brokered the deal. Authorities are investigating whether part of this money ended up in Pinto da Costa's family circle.

At the time, the Dragons sold the television rights until 2027 to the then now-defunct PT Portugal, now called Altice Portugal, at the time chaired by the operator led by Paulo Neves, for 500 million euros.

The deal was brokered by BM Consultoria, owned by sports businessman Bruno Macedo, one of those accused in Operation Red Card. The former PT Portugal received a commission of 20 million euros for mediating the deal and it is this amount that is raising suspicions among investigators.

There are suspicions that Pedro Pinho is a front man for the son of the FC Porto president, Alexandre Pinto da Costa, and that the Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating whether part of the 20 million commission ended up in the Pinto da Costa family. The French Group Altice, which bought PT Portugal, confirms that it has entered into a service provision agreement with BM Consulting to mediate contacts and negotiations with several football clubs, such as FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting.

Altice claims the confidentiality of the contracts in order not to reveal the amounts involved. We have not been contacted by any judicial authority regarding this matter.
